Poem in A Bottle
Posted by Tracey Malloy on Sunday, September 4, 2011
My words are of love to you, sealed away for the rest of time,
Even though they won't help get you out of my mind.
I roll the paper up and slowly slide it in,
Reminiscing of all our times way back when.
I cork the bottle to preserve our love,
Something that once was.
I tie a gold ribbon around the bottle's neck,
No need for such fancy decorations, but what the heck.
Perhaps one day, my poem will drift to shore
And someone will read of the love I wanted forever more.
The clean and crisp paper will then be old,
But my story will still be told.
The bottle will be dirty,
The poem inside will show I'm hurting.
A long lost message of what our love could have been
If only we had tried harder back then.
The chances of you ever reading this poem are slim to none,
But I still want you to know you are the one.
I kneel down in the sand,
A strong wave washes the bottle from my hand.
Something I thought was always meant to be...

But all that's left is this poem in a bottle, written by me.
